Jumping Into the Giveaway Pool

Lots of bloggers are having giveaways. Some are having photo caption contests. Others have offered naming rights of their child, but only on their blog, not in real life.

And since I'm very, very competitive, I thought I'd take it to the next level. I am having a giveaway. But not ANY giveaway. I am offering naming rights of my second born.

How's that for having the chance to have an impact on my life? This child could possibly carry the name you suggested for the next 100+ years. Are you in?

Besides having a gorgeous child (I saw his face yesterday on the ultrasound, trust me, this kid will make you wish I was the one who had 17 kids instead of that crazy couple with all the "J" named kids) carry a name you suggested, I'll also throw in a $25 gift card to any store you want. Even if it's the kind of store that will get you your very own Duncan. Your pick.

So the rules of the game? Well, really, are easy. If you were going to name your son (or if you have a son and love his name so much that you think mine should share it), send it in!

My only limitations are this (because you know there had to be some!):

- No name in the top 50 popularity list
- No crazy names like Nike or Vulva (well, you can suggest them, but you won't win)
- Ideally, it should be pronouncable in French, since I get grief from my family all the time for not giving Little Man a name that my grandparents can pronounce. Note that this will not necessarily eliminate the name should I decide that it's the one. And I will not name my kid Jean-Michel. He is being raised in North Texas after all, and I'm not giving the bullies any additional reason for kicking his ass.

Your suggestions can be emailed to me at catwoman.in.texas at gmail dot com. Please don't post them in comments, because should your name be chosen and you become the winner, I want Tiny Man's real identity to be kept anonymous and would not want his real name ever having appeared in my comments.

So why am I doing this? Well, to be perfectly honest, right now, I'm at a dead end. We currently have a short list of four names, and even though I like them fine, none of them feel like "the one." And if I have to read the baby name book one more time, my eyes are literally going to start bleeding.

Help me. Name my child. Will ya?

Email, huh. Alrighty then.

You're brave, btw. VERY brave. After all, my kid's middle name is the name of a mountain. Apparently that's a bad thing if you ask my husband.

Awesome idea! It's a win/win situation, you still get to decide the name in the end and someone is lucky enough to not only name your child but to win a g/c cool!
I have a bunch of names in mind, afterall, I never got to name a boy before (two girls). Off to check the top fifty list though.

I'm not good at this. I had my kids names picked out since I was five, I didn't have to pick out one when I was pregnant.

I'll think about it though. :)

oooo, I can't believe you are doing this! how fun! Of course you get ultimate veto power but I love the idea you are letting your peeps name the baby. I have to put my thinking cap on and check the top 50 list. When are the names due?

All my names are Irish. But I'll send them in anyway.

Hmm. This is a tough one. I'm gonna have to look through my list of names and get back to ya.

Granpa Mike in Plano says:
My daughter and her husband were expecting a girl for eight months. The first sonogram was inconclusive. They had a girl's name all picked out... even had some pink items bought! One month or so before her due date, the final sonogram showed a DEFINITE boy, if you know that I mean. The name scramble began.
When it was only two weeks from her due date and they still didn't have a name, I suggested (in jest) that my grandson be named after the two grandfathers, Billy and Mike. After all, my daughter and her husband were "living in Arkansas and Billy Mike seemed like an appropriate Arkansas name".
"Ha ha ha!", she laughed sarcastically. My daughter didn't think this was funny, but my son-in-law got the joke. My daughter knows my sense of humor well, but I appeared serious each time I brought this up.
One week to go. No name picked yet. I told her that if she didn't like the name, "Billy Mike", she could just use the initials which would be acceptable and we would just call the newbie "Little BM". She was scared now, thinking that if this nickname got started, it might stick for years!
They picked Kaden the next day and lived happily ever after.

And how come I haven't seen ya around before? Getting slow in my old age. Or just tired.

You're too cool, Catwoman!

For the love of God.

Here's how you name a baby.

Go to the back door.
Open it.
Scream the chosen name 16 times.

If it still sounds good, it's a winner.

The end.

I sent you my suggestion. :)

And you have to make sure that Little Man and Tiny Man have names that go well together since you will be yelling them together for the next 20 years or so. LOL!!

My sons are Jonathan and Alexander; Jon and Alex for short, they both like their names and so do we! Good Luck!

Have I won yet?

I'd vote but I'm too lazy to look up the 50 top names to know which ones not to vote on!
Damn my lazy gene.
I'm sending droves over to you to vote though!

Well, since I had girls and didn't get to use my boy name, I'll be glad to share - Lawson. We chose Daniel for the first name and our last name starts with an S, so I guess in hind-sight it's better that we had girls instead of monograms of LSD for a boy!

Congrats and good luck with the delivery ~~ and have fun reading all of the entries!
