Probably Not A Work Appropriate Conversation

I brought Little Man to work for an hour or so yesterday, and the VP of my department met him for the first time. This morning, my VP stops by my cube to give me a project and he says before he walks away:

"That's a really cute boy you have.

- Thanks!

- Did he enjoy his time here yesterday?

- Well, he's pretty shy, but he was ok.

- He seemed to have plenty of fun throwing me that foam ball.

(I laugh) - Yeah, he loved you.

- Well, doesn't everyone?

- Of course! But he's really into men right now.

My VP laughs kind of awkwardly. - Well, hopefully that will change as he grows up."

The thing is? As soon as the sentence about Little Man being into men crossed my lips? I totally thought "Oh God, tell me I didn't just say that."

I'm pretty sure my blushing has finally subsided a little.

Love,

Catwoman.

Oh, shit! Good one! Well, you know, with mine all of five months older, I've learned to let such things slide. Like, who cares that Dora & Jojo are our favorites characters, or that purple is the favorite color, or Oh, God! This is a bit scary, eh?

I think your obvious attempt to promote diversity in the workplace is to be rewarded.

Hopefully your boss won't reward you by sending you to sensitivity training :)

Hugs to the Little Man.

At least Little Man won't remember the time when his mommy told someone he liked men!

I will make it my sole mission to memorize this story and tell LittleMan what you did to him when he is old enough to understand.

So Punkin's favorite show is Dora, he has a Dora tooth brush and potty stool, plus he loves men.

Then there's the whole dance party thing. And he wanted to be a mermaid for Halloween. Of course he's only three, but.....

I don't know girl, maybe he just thought you were talking about yourself with that last line?

That was a good one!! How funny! We've had the same comment around here but for our daughter, and that felt just as awkward. I am sure the same thing will slip out when our Little Man is a bit older.

That's hilarious, and it sounds like your boss had a good sense of humor.

And me, being little miss must show my liberal side would've then bolted into a huge political debate on SO WHAT IF IT DOESNT when obviously it was a lighthearted lalala comment.

Good thing YOU made the slip up and not me. I'd get my ass fired. ;)

(okay and my word verification? vrytxgay. I just seriously spit my cough drop out.)

Sophie loves women. Sometimes when I say she's a flirt they look at me strangely. But she is, no doubt about it.

I'm with "m" above. I would have snapped back "I will love him if that changes or NOT when he gets older" 'cause I'm so sick and tired of homophobia. We are all people dammit. /end rant
